Touareg takes 155-ton-jet along for a ride

The Touareg V10 TDI can pull a 155-ton Boeing 747. Born as a bet, the event was finally realised by Volkswagen employees in Dunsfold, England. But first of all, the Touareg was modified: Weight and tire pressure were increased and the maximum speed was limited. The result: With a speed of 8 km/h, the Touareg pulled the Boeing 150 meters.

The Touareg R50 – not for the modest

What formidable drive power: 350 hp. 850 Nm of torque. From 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. The Touareg R50 is positively bursting with power and sportiness, and makes no efforts to hide it. 21-inch "Omanyt" wheels, sill extensions and sporty looking bumpers instantly earn it the respect it deserves. Visual upgrade – improved aerodynamics

The Touareg has had a facelift, and that is easy to see from the chrome-look, shield-shaped radiator grille that is typical of Volkswagen. The redesign also includes the now more organically shaped headlight housings – with the option of bi-xenon headlights with cornering light. The Touareg has new door mirrors and an optimised roof spoiler to improve its aerodynamics. 

Technical innovations as a world first

The Touareg's ABSplus system, developed and patented by Volkswagen, is a world first. It detects loose surfaces such as sand or gravel and shortens the braking distance by up to 20 % by means of controlled locking of the brakes. The electronic stabilisation program (ESP) also has some new functions. For example, roll stability is increased and brake pressure is built up as a precautionary measure as soon as you lift your foot from the accelerator.

Stylish convenience in the passenger compartment

Integrated into the multifunction steering wheel you will find controls for the radio, telephone, navigation system, ACC and cruise control. They are particularly simple and practical to use. High-end in the field of entertainment: the Touareg is the first SUV in the world that can be equipped with a sound system from Danish hi-fi specialists Dynaudio. Ten carefully matched tweeters, mid-range and bass speakers driven by a ten-channel amplifier deliver a full and clear sound with 600 watts of music power.
